Cheddar Biscuits with Sage

Ingredients

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ¾ cup almond milk
  • 2 tbsp almond milk (for brushing)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • ½ cup cold regular butter or vegan butter
  • ¾ cup grated cheddar or vegan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh sage, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Combine almond milk and lemon juice in a small bowl and set aside.
  3. Prepare the grated cheese and finely chopped sage.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, sugar, baking powder, and chopped sage.
  5. Cut the cold butter into small cubes and add to the dry ingredients. Incorporate until it resembles small peas.
  6. Add the almond milk and lemon juice mixture along with the cheese. Fold until just combined.
  7. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll it out to about 1-1½ inches thick.
  8. Use a 2-inch round cookie cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the baking sheets.
  9. Brush almond milk on top of each biscuit for moisture and color.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes and let cool before serving.
