Ingredients

The donuts

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • teaspoon ground ginger
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • a pinch ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cup pumpkin puree
  • cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

The maple glaze

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • teaspoons light corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • to taste sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease the donut pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the wet ingredients: pumpkin puree, brown sugar, egg, milk, and melted butter.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Transfer the batter to a piping bag and fill the donut pan ¾ full.
  6. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until fluffy and springy to touch.
  7. Cool the donuts in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. For the glaze, melt butter, brown sugar, and milk in a saucepan over medium heat.
  9. Remove from heat and whisk in corn syrup and maple extract, then add powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
  10. Dip each donut in the glaze and add sprinkles immediately before the glaze sets.
