Ingredients

The donuts

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • teaspoon ground ginger
  • teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • a pinch ground cloves
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cup pumpkin puree
  • cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup milk

The cream cheese glaze

  • 2 ounces cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease the donut pan.
  2. Melt the butter in a small bowl and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and salt in a small bowl.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, brown sugar, egg, milk, and slightly cooled melted butter, and whisk until well combined.
  5. Add the flour mixture to the pumpkin mixture and stir until just mixed.
  6. Transfer the batter to a piping bag and pipe into the prepared donut pan, filling each ring ¾ full.
  7. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes until a toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Cool the donuts in the pan until cool enough to handle, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  9. For the glaze, beat the softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  10. Add the powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon of milk, and beat until smooth, adjusting the milk as needed to achieve a thin frosting consistency.
  11. Dip each donut in the glaze and allow to set for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
