Instructions
- Whisk warm buttermilk, warm water, yeast, and sugar together and let sit for 5 minutes.
- Add butter, egg, salt, garlic powder, and 1 cup of flour, then mix until combined.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is soft and slightly tacky.
- Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1.5 to 2 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle, then sprinkle cheese on top.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it in half lengthwise.
- Twist the two halves together and place in a greased loaf pan.
- Let the shaped dough rest for 30 minutes while preheating the oven.
- Mix melted butter, herbs, and garlic powder for the topping and brush it on the dough.
- Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
- Cool the bread in the pan for 10 minutes, then on a wire rack before slicing.
