Ingredients

Dough

  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • cup water
  • teaspoons Platinum Yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Topping

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Whisk warm buttermilk, warm water, yeast, and sugar together and let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add butter, egg, salt, garlic powder, and 1 cup of flour, then mix until combined.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it is soft and slightly tacky.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1.5 to 2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle, then sprinkle cheese on top.
  6. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut it in half lengthwise.
  7. Twist the two halves together and place in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Let the shaped dough rest for 30 minutes while preheating the oven.
  9. Mix melted butter, herbs, and garlic powder for the topping and brush it on the dough.
  10. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes until golden brown and hollow sounding when tapped.
  11. Cool the bread in the pan for 10 minutes, then on a wire rack before slicing.
