Maple Bourbon Baked Glazed Pears

Ingredients

The pears

  • 6 to 8 pieces Seckel pears

The maple bourbon glaze

  • ½ cup maple syrup or sugar free maple syrup
  • ¼ to ⅓ cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • ¼ cup pure bourbon whiskey
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice or apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • a pinch nutmeg (optional)

The topping

  • 8 oz chilled heavy cream
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • a dash ground ginger and/or cinnamon
  • a pinch sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. In a saucepan, whisk together the maple syrup, coconut sugar, bourbon, orange juice, ginger, and optional nutmeg over medium heat until it reaches a soft boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes until the glaze thickens.
  4. Place sliced pears cut side up on a baking sheet and brush with the glaze.
  5. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the pears are tender and golden.
  6. Cool slightly before plating.
  7. To make whipped cream, mix chilled heavy cream with maple syrup, ginger/cinnamon, and salt, then whip until formed.
  8. Serve warm pears with whipped cream.
