Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • ½ cup salted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 medium bananas
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

For topping

  • to taste coarse sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Add the mashed bananas, egg yolk, and sour cream, stirring until the mixture is well mixed.
  4. Incorporate the flour and chocolate chips, mixing until no dry streaks remain.
  5. Scoop the dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  6. For puffy cookies, bake as is; for flatter cookies, press them gently with a sugared glass.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are set and the centers are no longer wet.
