Ingredients

The dough

  • 9 oz all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 oz ground walnuts
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 oz granulated sugar
  • 1 oz butter
  • ½ teaspoon alkaline water
  • 5 oz peanut oil or cooking oil

Topping

  • 2 oz walnut halves

Egg wash

  • 1 egg yolk egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon oil

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, baking powder, ground walnuts, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Rub in the butter until the mixture resembles crumbs.
  3. Add the alkaline water and peanut oil, then mix until the dough forms and becomes soft.
  4. Divide the dough into 20g portions and flatten each slightly with a fork.
  5. Top each piece with half a walnut and brush the tops with egg wash.
  6. Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 30 minutes or until the tops are lightly browned.
