Warm Tofu with Spicy Garlic Sauce

firm tofu (14- to 18-oz)

chopped garlic

chopped scallion (about 4 thinly sliced)

toasted sesame seeds

soy sauce (low sodium or Tamari)

Asian sesame oil

coarse Korean hot red-pepper flakes

sugar
Instructions
- 1. Place the tofu in a shallow saucepan and cover with cold water. Optionally, cut the block of tofu in half.
- 2. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat, then keep warm covered over very low heat for at least 20 minutes.
- 3. Meanwhile, mince and mash the garlic to a paste and stir together with the remaining ingredients to make the sauce.
- 4. Just before serving, carefully lift the tofu from the saucepan and drain. Transfer the tofu to a shallow bowl or bowls.
- 5. Spoon the sauce over the tofu and serve warm.
