Bananas Foster

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces bananas, peeled and cut in half lengthwise
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons banana liquor (optional)
  • ¼ cup dark rum
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Brush bananas with lemon juice.
  2. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add butter and brown sugar, stirring until melted.
  3. Add bananas and sauté until tender, about 5 to 8 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle cinnamon over the bananas and remove the pan from heat.
  5. Off the heat, add banana liquor (if using) and rum, then carefully ignite the pan.
  6. Baste the bananas with the warm sauce until the flame burns out.
  7. Serve in bowls with ½ cup of vanilla ice cream, topped with one banana half and sauce.
