Ingredients

The sauce

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • cup brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ cup rum
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

The bananas

  • 3 firmly ripe bananas

The topping

  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium low heat.
  2. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, cooking for about 1 minute until moist.
  3. Stir in 1 tablespoon of rum, water, and vanilla extract, cooking until bubbly and thickened for 1 to 2 minutes.
  4. Add the bananas to the skillet and coat them with the sauce.
  5. Remove the pan from heat and pour in the remaining rum.
  6. Carefully ignite the rum and allow the alcohol to burn off.
  7. Return the skillet to heat and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring and flipping the bananas until tender.
  8. Serve warm banana foster topped with vanilla ice cream.
