Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 2 cups milk of choice
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 ⅓ cups butter (softened)
  • 1 cup cream cheese frosting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F and prepare two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vinegar, butter, sugar, and applesauce until combined.
  4. Let the wet mixture sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until mixed well.
  6. Distribute the batter evenly between the two prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking with a skewer for doneness.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  9. Once cooled, layer the cakes with frosting if desired.
