Teriyaki Turkey Burgers with Grilled Pineapple

Ingredients

The burgers

  • 2 pounds ground turkey
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup unseasoned bread crumbs
  • ¼ cup grated onion
  • ¼ cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

The toppings

  • 6 rings sliced fresh pineapple
  • to taste hamburger buns
  • to taste lettuce
  • to taste additional teriyaki sauce
  • to taste Swiss cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the grill to medium or medium-high heat.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, egg, bread crumbs, onion, teriyaki sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well mixed.
  3. Form the mixture into six burgers about ½-inch thick.
  4. If necessary, brush the grill grates with oil to prevent sticking.
  5. Grill the burgers for about six minutes on one side, then flip them, baste with teriyaki sauce, and grill for another 4-6 minutes until cooked through.
  6. During the last few minutes of grilling, add the pineapple rings to the grill and cook for 4-5 minutes, flipping once and optionally brushing with teriyaki sauce.
  7. Serve the turkey burgers on buns with additional teriyaki sauce, lettuce, and Swiss cheese if desired.
