Ingredients

  • 2 ⅛ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup chopped hazelnuts
  • to taste sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F and prepare a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, sea salt, and baking soda.
  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat until golden brown, then let it cool.
  4. In a stand mixer, combine the browned butter with the brown and granulated sugars until mixed.
  5. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  6. Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients, mixing on low until just combined.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped hazelnuts.
  8. Spread the cookie dough into the prepared pan and sprinkle lightly with sea salt.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and edges pull away from the pan.
  10. Cool on a wire rack, then cut into squares and serve.
