Ingredients

The soup base

  • cups chicken stock
  • ¾ cup milk
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

Seasonings

  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp freshly-ground black pepper
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • tsp celery seed (optional)
  • tsp dried thyme

Optional ingredient

  • ¼ cup finely diced cooked chicken

Instructions

  1. 1. Bring the chicken stock to a boil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. 2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and flour until smooth.
  3. 3. Slowly add the milk mixture to the boiling chicken stock, whisking to combine.
  4. 4. Whisk in the seasonings and reduce the heat to medium, bringing it back to a very low boil.
  5. 5. Stir constantly for about 3 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  6. 6. If using, stir in the diced chicken and remove from heat.
  7. 7. Use immediately in a recipe or store in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
