Ingredients

The beef and scallions

  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef
  • 1 bunch scallions

The marinade and sauce

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup mirin
  • ¼ cup sake
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and grated
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Arrange the sliced beef on a cutting board and roll half a scallion into each slice, securing with toothpicks.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, oyster sauce, and ginger.
  3. Place the beef rolls in a dish and cover with the marinade, letting them marinate at room temperature for 20 minutes.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and cook the beef rolls for 5-8 minutes.
  5. Remove the beef rolls from the skillet, transfer the marinade to the skillet, bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer until the sauce thickens.
  6. Let the sauce cool, remove the toothpicks from the beef rolls, and serve with the sauce.
