Ingredients

The dough

  • 1 cup water (warmed)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cups whole-wheat flour

The toppings

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (grated)
  • as needed oil spray
  • as needed toppings (sausage, mushrooms, mixed veggies, parmesan cheese, pesto, goat cheese, arugula, olives)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing it with warm water and let it foam.
  2. Stir in salt and olive oil into the yeast mixture.
  3. Combine flour and yeast mixture in a food processor or mixer, or mix by hand until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth, then place it in a greased bag or bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  5. Preheat the oven to 500°F.
  6. Roll out the dough to your desired thickness and place it on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Spread tomato sauce and add cheese and other toppings.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes until the crust and cheese are golden brown.
