Ingredients

The brownies

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 4 ounce semi-sweet chocolate bar, coarsely chopped
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract, divided
  • 1 cup unsweetened natural or dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • cups chopped peanut butter cups

The peanut butter swirl

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch pan.
  2. Melt ¾ cup of butter and the chopped chocolate together until smooth, then whisk in the granulated sugar, eggs, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
  3. Fold in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt, then stir in the chopped peanut butter cups.
  4. For the peanut butter swirl, beat the remaining butter, vanilla, peanut butter, and confectioners’ sugar until smooth.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the brownie batter and peanut butter batter into the pan, then swirl them together with a knife.
  6. Bake for 30-36 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  7. Cool completely before cutting into squares.
