The beans

  • 1 lb dried beans

Optional flavorings

  • a few cloves garlic
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 2 leaves bay leaves

Water

  • 6-8 cups water

Instructions

  1. Rinse and sort through the beans, then soak them in water overnight.
  2. Drain and rinse the beans.
  3. Transfer the beans to a slow cooker and add garlic, onion, and bay leaves if desired.
  4. Cover the beans with water, using about 6-8 cups for 1 pound of beans.
  5. Cook on high for 8-10 hours, adjusting the time based on the type of beans used.
