Ingredients

The cake

  • 12 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Guinness
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (full fat, plain or vanilla)
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon sea salt

The frosting

  • 8 ounce cream cheese (softened)
  • cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Butter a 9-inch springform pan and dust with cocoa powder.
  3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat, then add Guinness and bring to a simmer.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in cocoa powder, and allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  5. Whisk together Greek yogurt, eggs, and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl.
  6. Add the cooled cocoa mixture to the egg mixture and mix until smooth.
  7. In another bowl, combine flour, sugars, baking powder, and salt.
  8. Add the flour mixture to the chocolate mixture and stir until just combined.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 50 to 55 minutes.
  10. Cool the cake on a wire rack until cool to the touch, then transfer to a cake dish.
  11. Beat cream cheese until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar, cream, and vanilla to make frosting.
  12. Once the cake is cool, frost the top to resemble a pint of Guinness.
