Ingredients

Dough

  • ½ cup 2% milk
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • 1 packet quick rise yeast
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Icing

  • 2-3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice

Instructions

  1. 1. Bloom the yeast in warm milk for about 5 minutes.
  2. 2. Add orange juice, maple syrup, melted butter, egg, and orange zest to the yeast mixture and whisk to combine.
  3. 3. Gradually mix in flour and salt using a stand mixer until a shaggy dough forms, then knead until smooth and elastic.
  4. 4. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (1-1.5 hours).
  5. 5. Prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  6. 6. Roll the risen dough into a rectangle and spread the filling mixture over it.
  7. 7. Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 1-inch rolls.
  8. 8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise until they touch (about 30 minutes).
  9. 9. Preheat the oven to 350°F while the rolls rise.
  10. 10. Make the icing by mixing orange juice and zest, then gradually add powdered sugar until smooth.
