Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup salted butter
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 to 4 cups all-purpose flour

Filling

  • ½ cup salted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons fresh orange zest

Frosting

  • 3 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
  • 6 tablespoons salted butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon milk or heavy cream
  • 1 to 2 teaspoons fresh orange zest
  • cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk until scalded and pour it into a mixing bowl.
  2. Add butter, sugar, and salt to the milk and mix until melted, then let cool.
  3. Add yeast and egg, then mix until combined.
  4. Gradually add flour until the dough is soft and slightly sticky, then knead for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  6. Mix all filling ingredients in a bowl until well combined.
  7. Roll the dough into a rectangle and spread the filling evenly over it.
  8. Roll up the dough tightly and cut into 12 equal pieces.
  9. Shape the rolls and place them on a lined baking sheet, then let rise until puffy, about 1 to 1½ hours.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F and bake for 18-22 minutes until lightly golden.
  11. Prepare the frosting by mixing all frosting ingredients until creamy.
  12. Spread frosting over the warm rolls and serve.
