Ingredients

The dough

  • ¾ cup milk, warm
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup granulated white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 orange zest and juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3¾-4 cups all-purpose flour

The filling

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • ½ cup butter, melted

The frosting

  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3 ounces butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice, or more

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk and yeast in a bowl and let it sit for 3-5 minutes.
  2. Melt the butter in a microwaveable bowl and stir until fully melted.
  3. Mix the melted butter with the yeast mixture, adding vanilla, sugar, eggs, orange juice, orange zest, and salt.
  4. Gradually add flour, mixing until the dough is sticky; add more flour if necessary.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled.
  6. Prepare the filling by mixing sugar, cinnamon, and orange zest.
  7. Punch down the dough and roll it out to a 1-inch thick rectangle, brushing with melted butter and sprinkling the filling on top.
  8. Roll the dough tightly and slice it into 12 rolls.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased pan and let them rise for about 45 minutes.
  10. Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and cool for 5 minutes.
  11. Prepare the cream cheese glaze by mixing cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange zest, vanilla, and orange juice.
  12. Drizzle the glaze over the warm rolls and serve.
