Ingredients

The pizza base

  • 1 12-inch pizza dough
  • 1 cup sweet BBQ sauce
  • 2-4 tablespoons coarse cornmeal

The toppings

  • 14 ounces extra-firm tofu
  • ½ large red onion
  • ¾ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¾ cup vegetarian Parmesan cheese
  • ¼ cup basil

The seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • garlic salt optional for the crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. If using homemade pizza dough, prepare it according to the recipe; otherwise, let store-bought dough come to room temperature.
  3. Dice the tofu into 1-inch cubes and mix with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Spread the tofu on the baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes until golden.
  5. Sauté sliced red onion in a skillet with olive oil for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  6. Increase the oven temperature to 500°F and roll out the pizza dough into a 12-inch round.
  7. Transfer the dough to a preheated pizza stone or baking sheet, and spread BBQ sauce on it, leaving a 1-inch border.
  8. Layer half of the cheese, tofu, and onions, then add the remaining toppings.
  9. Bake for 12-14 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted.
  10. Let the pizza rest for a few minutes before slicing and garnish with fresh basil.
