Ingredients

The dough

  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 ½ tablespoons butter
  • 1 ½ teaspoons fine sea salt
  • 3 ½ cups bread flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 ½ teaspoons bread machine yeast

The topping

  • 1 egg beaten (or reserved egg white)
  • to taste sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the milk, water, eggs, butter, salt, bread flour, sugar, and yeast in the bread machine pan in the specified order.
  2. Select the dough cycle and start the machine.
  3. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or spray a bun pan.
  4. Once the dough cycle is complete, divide the dough into 8 pieces on a floured surface.
  5. Shape each piece into a tight ball and roll them into circles.
  6. Arrange the shaped dough on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between them.
  7. Brush the tops with the egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  8. Let the buns sit at room temperature for 15 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F while the buns rest.
  10. Bake the buns for 15 to 18 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Cool slightly in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
