Ingredients

The pastries

  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 8-ounce package Arla cream cheese spread
  • 1 5-ounce package smoked salmon

Optional toppings

  • to taste fresh dill
  • to taste chopped fresh chives
  • to taste capers

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet on a floured surface and cut it into 9 equal squares.
  3. Score a thin border around each square and poke holes in the middle to prevent puffing.
  4. Brush the tops of the pastry squares with whisked egg whites.
  5. Bake in the oven for about 10-12 minutes until golden, monitoring to ensure they don't puff up excessively.
  6. Let the pastries cool for 5 minutes after baking.
  7. Spread cream cheese on top of each pastry, add pieces of smoked salmon, and sprinkle with desired toppings.
  8. Serve immediately.
