Instructions
- Prepare the yeast by adding warm milk and yeast to a bowl and let it bloom for about 5 minutes.
- Whisk together the maple syrup, melted butter, egg, and vanilla with the bloomed yeast mixture.
- Using a stand mixer, gradually add flour and salt to the wet ingredients until a shaggy dough forms, then knead until smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-1.5 hours.
- While the dough rises, prepare the filling by sautéing diced apples with butter and nutmeg until soft.
- In a small bowl, mix together softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon for the filling.
- Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle, spread the filling over it, and top with the sautéed apples.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and slice into 1-inch rolls.
- Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Bake the rolls for 18-22 minutes until centers are set.
- Let the rolls cool for 10 minutes before frosting with the brown butter cream cheese frosting.
