Ingredients

The filling

  • ¾ cup uncooked old fashioned oats
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons light butter, chopped

The apples

  • 6 medium apples

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking dish with about ½ inch of water.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt, then stir together.
  3. Add chopped butter to the mixture and use fingers or a fork to create crumbles.
  4. Scoop out the centers of the apples, removing the core and seeds while keeping the bottom intact.
  5. Fill each apple with the crumble mixture and place them in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Bake in the oven for 15-20 minutes until the apples are softened but still firm, and the topping is crispy.
  7. Serve warm.
