Ingredients

Hot Chocolate Base

  • 3 Tbsp cocoa butter (chopped // food-grade)
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cacao (or cocoa) powder (sifted)
  • 1 Tbsp carob powder (optional // sifted)
  • 2 ½ cups canned light or homemade coconut milk (divided)
  • 1 dash ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp maca powder
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup

Optional Toppings

  • to taste Coconut Whipped Cream
  • to taste Chopped dark chocolate (or store-bought // or cacao powder)

Instructions

  1. 1. Add 1 inch of water to a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer.
  2. 2. Place a glass or ceramic bowl on top and add cocoa butter, cacao powder, carob powder (if using), and ½ cup of coconut milk.
  3. 3. Whisk occasionally until melted and well combined.
  4. 4. Remove the bowl from heat, discard remaining water, and transfer the mixture to the saucepan.
  5. 5. Add cinnamon, maca powder, sea salt, maple syrup, and the remaining coconut milk.
  6. 6. Whisk to combine and cook over medium heat until it begins to bubble.
  7. 7. Taste and adjust flavors as needed.
  8. 8. Serve in mugs and top with optional coconut whipped cream and chocolate or cacao powder.
