Instructions
- 1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
- 2. Add the potatoes to the boiling water and cook for 10-12 minutes until fork tender, then drain.
- 3. In the pot, combine the milk, butter, cream cheese or sour cream (if using), salt, and black pepper.
- 4. Use a hand mixer to mash the potatoes until creamy, adjusting seasoning as needed.
- 5. Serve the mashed potatoes topped with melted butter and chives (if using).
