Instructions
- 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 13 by 8-inch baking dish.
- 2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
- 3. Toss the diced apples with lemon juice in a separate bowl.
- 4. In a mixer, cream together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, and butter until fluffy.
- 5. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- 6. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients until just combined.
- 7. Fold in the apples and pour the batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
- 8. Bake for about 33-38 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- 9. Let the cake cool for about 5 minutes, then cut into squares and serve warm with the brown sugar sauce.
- 10. For the sauce, combine butter, brown sugar, milk, and salt in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.
- 11. Allow to boil for 1.5 minutes, then let cool slightly before serving over the cake.
