Asian Inspired Tangerine Pork Chops

Ingredients

The pork chops and marinade

  • 4 pieces boneless pork chops
  • 6 tablespoons tangerine juice
  • 3 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
  • 6 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon five spice powder
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon minced ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper
  • 1 large egg (lightly whipped)
  • 6 tablespoons corn starch
  • oil as needed for frying

The sauce

  • 1 cup sliced shitake mushrooms (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon corn starch

Instructions

  1. Mix tangerine juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, five spice powder, and sea salt to create a marinade.
  2. Divide the marinade into two portions.
  3. Add half of the minced ginger, garlic, and egg to one portion of the marinade for the pork.
  4. Place the pork chops in a zip lock bag and pour the marinade over them. Marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  5. Before frying, add corn starch to the pork and mix it well.
  6. Heat oil in a large skillet and cook the pork chops over medium-high heat for 2-3 minutes on each side until cooked through.
  7. In a separate pan, heat sesame oil and sauté the remaining ginger, garlic, and shitake mushrooms for 2 minutes.
  8. Mix corn starch into the remaining marinade and add it to the sauté pan, allowing it to thicken.
  9. Serve the pork chops garnished with scallions and tangerine wedges, alongside jasmine rice and steamed broccoli.
