Ingredients

The naan

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • teaspoons garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • cup warm vegan milk
  • ½ cup Greek vegan yogurt or thick coconut cream
  • tablespoons coconut oil or olive oil
  • to taste optional toppings (vegan parmesan cheese, extra garlic, parsley, or cilantro)

The garlic butter topping

  • 2 tablespoons vegan butter
  • tablespoons minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons freshly diced parsley or cilantro

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the dry ingredients in a large bowl.
  2. Create a well in the center and add the wet ingredients, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 3 minutes, adding flour as needed.
  4. Grease the dough ball, cover it, and let it rise for 30 minutes in a warm area.
  5. Divide the dough into 6 balls and roll each into a circle, then shape them slightly oblong.
  6. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and brush the naan with oil and seasonings.
  7. Cook each naan in the skillet for 30 seconds to 1 minute on each side until bubbles form.
  8. Remove from heat and brush with the garlic butter mixture before cooling on a wire rack.
