Ingredients

  • 10¾ oz unsalted butter
  • 10¼ oz light brown sugar
  • oz granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 17 oz unbleached all-purpose flour
  • teaspoons table salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 oz semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
  • to taste none nice sea salt for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs and vanilla, and mix until well blended.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking soda.
  4. Combine the dry ingredients with the butter mixture until just blended.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips until combined.
  6. Portion the dough into 1¾ oz balls and chill for at least 1 hour.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  8. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet and sprinkle with sea salt if desired.
  9. Bake for 11 minutes, keeping an eye on them to ensure they don't overbake.
  10. Let the cookies cool completely on the tray before removing.
