Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.
- Add the remaining sauce ingredients and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 35 minutes until thick.
- On baking sheets, assemble the pita bread and spread about ⅓ cup of sauce on each.
- Add bell pepper slices and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- Bake for approximately 20 minutes until the cheese has melted and the crust is slightly browned.
- Remove from the oven, sprinkle with fresh basil, cut into slices, and enjoy.
