Ingredients

The steak and sauce

  • 1 ¼ lbs top sirloin steak
  • cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • ¼ cup shaoxing wine
  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp cracked black pepper
  • 2 tsp dark sesame oil
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 6 tsp vegetable oil
  • to taste salt

The vegetables

  • 1 red bell pepper chopped into bite size pieces
  • 1 green bell pepper chopped into bite size pieces
  • 6 green onions white portions sliced, green portion chopped into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 Tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 Tbsp peeled and minced fresh ginger

Instructions

  1. Tenderize the steak by pounding it with a meat mallet.
  2. Cut the steak into 1/3-inch thick strips and pat dry.
  3. Mix the sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside.
  4. Preheat a skillet and add vegetable oil, then sear half of the steak until browned and transfer to a plate.
  5. Repeat the searing process with the remaining steak.
  6. Sauté the bell peppers in the skillet until slightly tender.
  7. Add green onions, garlic, and ginger, and sauté for an additional minute.
  8. Pour the sauce into the skillet and cook until it thickens.
  9. Return the steak to the skillet, toss everything together, and serve warm.
