Ingredients

The dough

For frying

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Combine salt and warm water in a bowl until the salt dissolves.
  2. Step 2: Gradually stir in the cornmeal flour and knead the dough until smooth.
  3. Step 3: Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  4. Step 4: Divide the dough into 8 portions and shape each into a thick disk.
  5. Step 5: Heat a non-stick pan, add butter or oil, and cook the arepas covered for 7-8 minutes.
  6. Step 6: Flip the arepas and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until golden brown.
