Ingredients

The nuts

  • 1 cup whole almonds
  • cup chopped pecans

The coating

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp water
  • ¼ cup sugar

Instructions

  1. Toast the almonds and pecans in a nonstick skillet over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the water, vanilla extract, and maple syrup into the sugar until combined.
  3. Add the sugar mixture and butter to the toasted nuts and heat over medium, stirring constantly until sticky (about 3 minutes).
  4. Remove from heat and spread the nuts in the pan. Let sit for a few minutes, stir, and spread again.
  5. Sprinkle with salt if desired, and let sit for at least 1 hour until cool and hardened.
  6. Break into chunks and enjoy!
