Super Easy Brown Gravy

  • 2 14.5-ounce cans beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon beef powder, bouillon, or 1-2 cubes
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ cup water mixed with 3 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • to taste salt and freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a skillet over medium-high heat, then add onion, garlic, and thyme, sautéing until the onions wilt.
  2. Whisk in flour to create a roux, stirring for 2-3 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
  3. Gradually add about ¼ of the beef broth while whisking until thick and smooth.
  4. Add the remaining broth, bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cook until thickened.
  5. Stir in bouillon powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, cooking for an additional minute.
  6. For the super easy method, heat beef broth with onion, garlic, and beef powder until boiling.
  7. Make a slurry with water and cornstarch, then pour it into the broth, stirring until thickened.
  8. Finish by adding butter and adjusting seasonings as needed.
