Ingredients

The French Toast

  • 12 slices Texas toast
  • 2 large eggs
  • tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ inch vegetable oil

Cinnamon Sugar

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Cut the Texas toast into about 3 strips per slice.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. In a shallow pan, mix sugar, salt, vanilla, milk, flour, and baking powder, then whisk in the eggs.
  4. Test the oil temperature by flicking water into the pan.
  5. Soak each strip of bread in the milk mixture quickly on both sides.
  6. Shake off excess batter and place the strips in the hot oil.
  7. Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes per side.
  8. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  9. Keep cooked pieces warm in the oven until ready to serve.
  10. Roll each piece in cinnamon sugar before serving.
