Ingredients

The bread and egg mixture

  • 4 slices thick day-old bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup half and half
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

The cinnamon sugar coating

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tablespoon cinnamon
  • teaspoon nutmeg

The cooking fat

  • 3-4 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Cut the edges of the bread if desired, then cut each slice into 1-inch thick sticks.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, half and half, and vanilla extract, then set aside.
  3. In a shallow bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, then set aside.
  4. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, and place them in a single layer on a lined baking sheet.
  5. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat, then add the bread sticks in a single layer without overcrowding.
  6. Cook until golden brown on one side, then flip and cook until the other side is golden brown.
  7. Immediately transfer the cooked sticks to the cinnamon-sugar mixture and roll to coat all sides.
  8. Serve on a plate with syrup and fruits.
