Ingredients

The base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ cups dark brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3 tablespoons hot water
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt

Mix-ins

  • 1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ cups chopped pecans
  • 4 cups quick oats

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cream the butter and sugars together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour and salt.
  5. Dissolve baking soda in hot water and add it to the creamed mixture alternately with the dry ingredients.
  6. Reduce mixer speed to low and mix in chocolate chips, pecans, and oats until just combined.
  7. Drop heaping tablespoons of dough onto parchment-lined baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for about 10 minutes or until golden around the edges.
  9. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
