Instructions
- Turn on the Instant Pot to the Sauté function and heat the olive oil and butter.
- Add the onion, celery, bay leaves, and thyme, cooking until the onion is translucent.
- Stir in the carrots, garlic, and bacon or ham if using, cooking for an additional minute.
- Pour in the broth and add the ham bone or ham hocks if using, bringing it to a simmer.
- Stir in the split peas.
- Seal the lid and set the steam release knob to the Sealing position.
- Cancel the sauté function and select Pressure Cook/Manual for 18 minutes on high pressure.
- After cooking, let the pot sit for 15 minutes for natural pressure release, then quick release any remaining pressure.
- Carefully open the lid, remove bay leaves and any bones or hocks.
- Taste the soup and add salt as needed before serving hot.
