Ingredients

The cabbage

  • 1 head fresh cabbage

The cooking base

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6-7 ounces smoked sausage (sliced into rounds)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • cups broth (chicken, beef, or vegetable)
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Instructions

  1. Slice the cabbage in half and remove the core, then slice into smaller strips.
  2. Heat a Dutch oven or large pot on medium-high heat.
  3. Add the butter and sliced sausage, cooking for 3-4 minutes until browned.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic.
  5. Add the sliced cabbage and broth to the pot.
  6. Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low, cooking for 15-30 minutes based on desired tenderness.
  7. Season with salt and pepper before serving.
