Instructions
- Halve the onions through the root end and remove the root.
- Thinly slice the onions lengthwise.
- Repeat the slicing for the remaining onion halves.
- Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add onions in batches, stirring until soft and translucent.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, until blonde-colored.
- Continue cooking until onions are golden brown, stirring regularly.
- For extra-dark onions, cook until they almost blacken around the edges.
- Let the onions cool, then transfer to an airtight container.
