Ingredients

The sauce

  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • ¼ cup bourbon whisky
  • ¼ cup unsweetened apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika

The chicken

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (for thickening)

The cooking

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • 1 stalk scallions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the bourbon sauce by mixing soy sauce, bourbon, apple juice, rice vinegar, maple syrup, minced garlic, grated ginger, and paprika in a bowl.
  2. Clean and slice the chicken thighs into strips and pat them dry.
  3. Coat the chicken strips with cornstarch.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook the chicken strips until golden brown, about 6 to 8 minutes.
  5. Add the bourbon sauce mixture to the skillet and stir to coat the chicken evenly.
  6. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water and add to the skillet, stirring until the sauce thickens.
  7. Serve the chicken immediately, garnished with chopped scallions.
