Ingredients

The dough

  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 egg egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

For brushing

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing sugar, active dry yeast, and lukewarm water, then let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine all-purpose flour, kosher salt, and egg in a bowl, then add the yeast mixture and mix well.
  3. Knead the dough with a stand mixer or by hand until smooth, then incorporate the softened butter and knead until elastic.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Press the dough to release air, then divide it into 18 equal pieces and shape each into a ball.
  6. Place the shaped buns in a lined baking pan and let them rise for 30 to 45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Preheat the oven to 356°F (180°C), brush the buns with melted butter, and bake for 15 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Brush more melted butter on top while still warm and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
