Ingredients

The cookie dough

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sprinkles

For topping

  • as needed more sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt in a medium bowl and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until creamy, then add the egg and vanilla and mix until combined.
  3. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined, then fold in the sprinkles.
  4. Scoop large sections of dough, roll into balls, and optionally dip the tops in more sprinkles.
  5. Chill the dough balls in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (177°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Arrange the chilled dough balls on the baking sheets and bake for 11-12 minutes until lightly browned on the sides.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
