Ingredients

The sandwich

  • 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
  • 4 slices bread

The tuna salad

  • 6-8 ounces canned tuna, drained
  • 1 medium green onion, finely chopped (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 stick celery, finely chopped (¼ cup)
  • ½ tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Creole seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • ½ juice of a lemon lemon juice
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • ½ tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • to taste salt

Optional toppings

  • 1 medium avocado, sliced
  • 1-2 medium tomatoes, sliced
  • ⅓-½ cup shredded mozzarella

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the tuna, green onion, celery, parsley, Creole seasoning, garlic, lemon juice, mayonnaise, mustard, and salt.
  3. For the oven method, place bread slices on a lined baking sheet and brush one side with melted butter or olive oil. Toast for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Remove the bread and top with tuna salad, cheese, and any optional fillings like tomatoes or avocado.
  5. Cover with another slice of bread and bake until the cheese is melted, about 5-8 minutes.
  6. For the skillet method, spread tuna salad on half of the bread slices, add cheese and optional toppings, and brush with butter.
  7. Heat a skillet over medium heat, add butter, and cook the sandwiches for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and the cheese melts.
