Crust Ingredients

  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon crystallized ginger

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350℉/175 degrees C.
  2. Prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking oil or butter.
  3. Melt butter and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Add apples, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and cornstarch, and stir to combine. Cook for about 7 minutes until apples are tender.
  5. Remove the filling from heat and let it cool.
  6. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda.
  7. Add butter to the flour mixture and mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  8. Stir in the buttermilk until just combined.
  9. Pour the apple filling into the prepared pan.
