Salmon Teriyaki

Ingredients

The salmon

  • 4 pieces salmon fillets (approximately 4 ounces each)
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sliced green onions

For the teriyaki sauce

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ¼ cup water
  • tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon minced ginger
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Make the teriyaki sauce by combining soy sauce, water, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, honey, and sesame oil in a pot over medium-high heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Increase the heat to high and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water until dissolved, then add it to the sauce and boil until thickened.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over high heat and season the salmon with salt and pepper.
  5. Sear the salmon skin side up for about 5 minutes until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 5 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the salmon, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.
